Measuring Criminal Justice Success in Responding to VAWA Crimes

Overview

In 2020, OVW funded VAWA MEI and the Justice Information Resource Network (JIRN) to develop and pilot test a set of indicators for gauging success in the criminal justice system’s response to VAWA crimes. Many of the products developed as a result of this project can help victim service providers, law enforcement, and researchers start thinking about measuring the benefits of their work.

Project Products

• Model Brief (PDF): A four-page summary of the conceptual model process, and how you can do something similar for your program. 
• Executive Summary (PDF): A two-page project summary. 
• Literature Review (PDF): How has previous research measured these outcomes? 
• Dataset Inventory (PDF): Inventory of existing national datasets that can be useful in measuring these outcomes. 
• Indicators Matrix (Excel): A spreadsheet of metrics that law enforcement agencies serving victims of VAWA crimes can use to measure their results. It can be sorted by concept area, provides several options to measure each outcome, and is free for download and use. 
• Research Agenda (PDF): Guidance for researchers and practitioners to fill knowledge gaps and advance the field further.
